Review of 2018 The First World Textile Merchandising Conference

Recently, “2018 The First World Textile Merchandising Conference” (hereinafter abbreviated as the Conference) was held in an international textile city — Keqiao District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province.
Themed by “Win-win Cooperation · Responsible Development”, the Conference adhered to principles of co-consulting, co-construction and sharing, paid attention to “openness, science & technology, fashion and greenness”, gathered global industrial forces with an “open, pragmatic and high-end” international textile event, gathered all wisdom, and accumulated all forces to seek for a win-win pattern and took active actions to jointly tackle all problems for the sake of practically promoting high-quality development of the world textile economy.
The two-day event comprised a theme conference, a round-table conference, four parallel forums on openness, technology, fashion and sustainability, and industry visit sections. The Conference discussed about collaborative development of the world textile industry and transformation and upgrading of China textile industry from a global and forward-looking perspective under the Belt and Road Initiative, and expected the future development trend of textile technology and dynamic pattern of the global fashion industry.
Gathering quality industrial resources along the “Belt and Road”nations
The Conference has created an open and efficient international cooperation platform to gather and integrate high-end and high-quality resources from countries along the “Belt and Road” to build a close and strong global partnership network and promote the establishment of a global textile industry chain cooperation system. It has also laid a good foundation for the blending of textile industry culture and the construction of common language. More than 1,100 people from textile industry associations, research institutes, design institutes, well-known enterprises, e-commerce platforms, domestic and foreign media, enterprises and other representatives from more than 30 countries and regions, including China, Switzerland, Kenya, Thailand, France, Canada, Italy, Germany, Belgium, UK, Sweden, Israel, South Korea, Japan, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine, attended the Conference.

The Conference was designed according to the highest level in the country, welcoming 41 distinguished guests to attend, including Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairman of the 10th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Jaswinder Bedi, Chairman of International Textile Manufactures Federation (ITMF) (2016 - 2018) and chairman of African Cotton and Textile Industry Federation (ACTIF), Sun Ruizhe, President of CNTAC and Vice Chairman of ITMF, Jiang Ming, Chairman and Secretary of the Communist Party of China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), etc.
The high-end resources of all parties and the elites of all walks of life gathered together, greatly enhancing the influence of the event. In addition, the high-end of the Conference is also reflected in the super internationalization lineup of the organization. The conference was supported by International Textile Manufactures Federation, the Asia-Pacific Retailers Association, and the International Apparel Union. It was guided by China National Textile and Apparel Council, China General Chamber of Commerce and China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel.It was co-sponsored by Shaoxing Municipal People’s Government and CNTAC Productivity Promotion Department, China General Chamber of Commerce External Liaison Work Committee, China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel - Apparel Branch and Fabric Branch and Shaoxing Keqiao District People’s Government. It was co-organized by China Textile Information Center, CNTAC Social Responsibility Office, China Textile International Exchange Center, China Textiles Development Center, China Textile Engineering Society, and China Textile City Construction Management Committee of Keqiao District, Shaoxing City.
A multi-dimensional wisdom feast
With a compact agenda, the Conference focused on the collaborative innovation and high-quality development of the global textile industry, the cooperation and win-win situation of the world textile industry, the development trend and cutting-edge technology of the future textile technology, the development trend of the global fashion industry, and green manufacturing and new business orientation of sustainable development. With forward-looking professional wisdom and deep thinking, the Conference explored the global diversified development path of the future world textile economy related to new technologies, new industries and new formats.

Focusing on “Win-win Cooperation · Responsible Development”, the theme conference focused on the development trend and opportunities of the global textile industry under the “Belt and Road Initiative” respectively at the national, industry and enterprise levels. The Round Table Conference of World-renowned Enterprises explored the feasibility-building plan for the reform of the global textile economic governance system around the high-quality and international development of the textile and garment industry.
The “Openness · New Linkage” forum explored issues such as the integration of production and cities, industrial hotspots, future development methods, and industrial strategies from a macro perspective. The “Technology · New Driving Force” forum brought together domestic and foreign technical experts and representatives of well-known enterprises to share hot topics such as textile supply chain, smart textiles, new retail and other cutting-edge technological achievements. The “Fashion·New Development” forum invited 28 global fashion experts to focus on the inclusive and open layout of the global fashion industry in the three dimensions of globalization, intelligence and design. The “Sustainability • New Formats” forum gathered 30 global mainstream purchasing brands to discuss the innovation and practice of the global textile supply chain green development. The industry visit has created a good opportunity for the global industry colleagues to have a better understanding of the Chinese textile industry, enhancing international exchanges.
Establishment of a global textile industry chain cooperation system
A series of events such as“World Textile Merchandising Conference Council” foundation ceremony, “Permanent Venue of WTMC - Keqiao, Shaoxing, China” awarding ceremony and “Silk Road in Keqiao, Connect Whole World Together” launching ceremony were also held on the conference, laying a foundation of the global textile industry chain cooperation system for a more orderly innovation collaboration and a more open structure, and bringing more cooperation and development opportunities for Keqiao and even the Chinese textile industry. “The Round Table Conference of World-renowned Enterprises” promoted the communication mechanism and communication platform construction and the links and high-level cooperation of global resources with a platform of mutual trust, mutual benefit, mutual benefit and unity and mutual assistance and explored a diversified development path and feasibility building program.
In addition, a number of industrial strategic cooperation projects have been implement during the Conference. During “Openness · New Linkage” forum, China Textile Information Center, Vietnam Textile and Garment Association, Cambodia Garment Manufacturers’ Association, Laos Textile Industry Association, Malaysia Textile Manufacturers’ Association and Burma Garment Manufacturers’ Association jointly sponsored and signed the manifesto of founding China • ASEAN Textile & Garment Productivity Promotion Alliance. The alliance aimed at promoting prosperous, healthy and orderly development of textile and garment industries in China and ASEAN members. “University-Industry-Research Cooperation Signing Ceremony of Keqiao People’s Government and scientific research units” was held during the parallel forum “Technology · New Driving Force” of the Conference. The “Fashion · New Development ” forum witnessed “Signing Ceremony for Hosting the the 30th Miss Model of the World in Keqiao Shaoxing · China Final Contest Awarding Ceremony & International Final Contest Settlement in Keqiao” and the Signing Ceremony of Settled Enterprise of China-Europe Fashion Dream Incubator. The parallel forum “Sustainability • New Formats” saw inauguration of “Sustainability Stewardship Pilot Zone” for Keqiao. CNTAC and Keqiao District, Shaoxing will carry out co-construction work of the Sustainability Stewardship Pilot Zone. Before 2020, they will promote textile enterprises in the zone under the administration to participate in pilot sustainable innovation projects and carry out green chemistry management and innovative management of climatic change and carbon emission reduction & water risks and water recycling so as to create a high-end textile manufacturing zone in Keqiao.
2018 The First World Textile Merchandising Conference is a grand gathering of elites to plan the future of the global textile industry and draw a grand blueprint for high-quality development. The Conference is rooted in the fertile soil of the industry. As the global representative of textile industry cluster and the strongest in China’s textile industry, Keqiao has demonstrated the international brand image of China’s top industrial clusters through the Conference, opening the a window to the world to understand China’s quality.
The Conference will, taking the Belt and Road as a practical platform, link global resources and integrate industry forces to jointly promote open, win-win, fair and equitable development, promote the technology-led and innovative development, promote the inclusive development, and promote green ecology, high-quality and sustainable development. The Conference sparked the participants’ deep professional thinking on the world textile economy and the future high-quality development and fashion transformation of China’s textile industry. At the same time, it also nurtured new opportunities to welcome the international competition of the global textile industry and open up a new high ground for the global market.
