China’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) was 50.9 percent in June, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, as the sector continued to expand steadily.

In terms of the size of enterprises, the PMI of large and medium-sized enterprises was 51.7 percent and 50.8 percent, respectively, down 0.1 and 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, which were both higher than the threshold; the PMI of small enterprises was 49.1 percent, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month and below the threshold.

From the perspective of sub-index, among the five sub-indexes of the manufacturing PMI, the production index and new order index are all above the threshold, while the raw material inventory index, employee index and supplier delivery time index are all below the threshold. The production index was 51.9 percent, 0.8 percentage points lower than the previous month and above the threshold, indicating that manufacturing production maintained expansion, but at a slower pace. The new orders index was 51.5 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month and above the threshold, indicating continued growth in manufacturing market demand.

Raw material inventory index was 48.0 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than the previous month, below the threshold, indicating that the decline in the inventory of major raw materials in the manufacturing industry has narrowed. The employment index was 49.2 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than the previous month, below the threshold, indicating that the employment climate of manufacturing enterprises improved slightly compared with the previous month. The supplier delivery time index was 47.9 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than last month, but below the threshold, indicating that the delivery time of manufacturing raw materials suppliers continued to slow down.
