China’s apparel exports in the first five months increased 48.3 percent year-on-year

According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs, from January to May in this year, China’s textile and apparel exports reached USD 112.69 billion, up 17.3 percent year-on-year (8.7 percent year-on-year in RMB), and up 13.2 percent compared with the same period in 2019. Among them, textile exports were USD 56.08 billion, down 3.1 percent year-on-year (down 10.3 percent year-on-year in RMB); apparel exports reached USD 56.61 billion, up 48.3 percent year-on-year (up 37.6 percent in RMB).

In May, China’s textile and apparel exports were USD 24.32 billion, down 17.6 percent year-on-year (down 24.0 percent year-on-year in RMB). Due to the high export base of pandemic prevention materials in the same period last year, textile exports in May this year fell by 41.2 percent year-on-year (down by 45.7 percent in RMB), and the export value was USD 12.12 billion, still up by 4.1 percent compared with the same period in 2019.
 
In May, the apparel exports continued to maintain rapid growth. The apparel export value in that month was USD 12.2 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 37.1 percent (26.6 percent year-on-year growth in RMB), which fully reflects the resilience of China’s textile and apparel industrial chain, as well as the competitive advantages of efficient and stable international supply chain.
