Sri Lanka’s Daily News reported on December 10 that the Sri Lankan Garment Industry Association believes that the COVID-19 has not severely hit Sri Lanka’s garment exports. It is expected that exports will reach USD 3.7 billion in 2021, and exports were USD 5.6 billion in 2019.
Apparel exports in 2019 accounted for 46.9% of Sri Lanka’s total exports. Currently affected by the COVID-19, 21 factories have been temporarily closed and nearly 20,000 people are unemployed.
