A few days ago, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) released the textile machinery order index from July to September 2020. It is reported that compared with the same period last year, the textile machinery order index dropped by 26% to 72.4 points (base: 2015=100).

In the third quarter, the foreign market orders of Italian textile machinery manufacturers fell by 31%, and the order index was 68.2 points. However, compared with the same period in 2019, the order index in the Italian domestic market increased by 20%, and the order index reached 112.6 points.

Alessandro Zucchi, president of ACIMIT, said: “In the traditional sense, the textile machinery industry is an export-driven industry. Therefore, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a heavy hit to the industry. In fact, more than 80% of our textile machinery is oriented to the export market. However, the current strict export restrictions due to the pandemic and the uncertainty of the time when business activities return to normalization will seriously affect the production activities of the entire industry.”
