From January to July 2020, a briefing on the economic operation of China’s apparel industry was released. This briefing report is a comprehensive analysis by the Ministry of Industry of the China National Garment Association based on relevant data from the National Bureau of Statistics and China Customs, and summarizes brief data and operating trends related to the apparel industry.

In July, with the effective prevention and control of the domestic pandemic and the gradual recovery of the domestic demand market, the operation of my China’s apparel industry continued to rebound on the basis of the obvious improvement last month. The decline in major economic indicators such as production, investment, and efficiency has further narrowed, and the production supply capacity Continue to improve, and the industry has maintained a stable recovery trend. At the same time, because the overseas pandemic is still spreading, the international economic environment is severe and complex, and the industry is undergoing upgrading and transformation, China’s apparel industry is still facing superimposed pressure and difficulties.
 
Produce:
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2020, enterprises above designated size in the apparel industry completed a total of 11.439 billion garments, a year-on-year decrease of 13.42%, the rate of decline narrowed by 0.27 percentage points from the previous month and 6.87 percentage points from the first quarter.
 
Domestic sales:
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2020, the online retail sales of physical goods was 5,101.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%; of which, the online retail sales of apparel products fell by 0.9% year-on-year, and the rate of decline was narrowed by 2 percentage points from the previous month and 14.2 percentage points from the first quarter.
 
Export:
According to China Customs data, from January to July 2020, China has completed exports of apparel and apparel accessories totaling USD 69.583 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 16.68%. The rate of decline narrowed by 2.74 percentage points from the previous month and 3.5 percentage points from the first quarter.
 
Investment:
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2020, the actual completed investment in China’s apparel industry dropped by 36.6% year-on-year, the rate of decline narrowed by 1.3 percentage points from the previous month and 9.2 percentage points from the first quarter.
 
Benefit:
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2020, there will be 13,160 enterprises above the designated size (annual main business income of 20 million yuan and above) in the apparel industry, with a cumulative operating income of 700.592 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 15.01%, the rate of decline narrowed by 1.38 percentage points from the previous month and 8.45 percentage points from the first quarter; the total profit was 29.497 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 26.28%, and the rate of decline narrowed by 1.06 percentage points from the previous month and 17.22 percentage points from the first quarter; operating income profit margin was 4.21%, a year-on-year decrease of 0.64 percentage points.
