According to data released on the website energyprom.kz, textile production accounts for more than 60% of the output value of Kazakhstan’s light industry. The proportion of light industry in the processing industry is only 1%, and the proportion in the total industrial output is only 0.4%.
From January to April 2020, Kazakhstan produced 8.1 million square meters of cotton fabrics, an increase of 3.5% year-on-year; 7.4 million pieces of home textiles, an increase of 5.7% year-on-year; nonwovens and their products of 1.9 million square meters; carded and combed cotton 35,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.8%; felt 158 million tenge, a year-on-year decrease of 13.3%.
During the statistical period, the total output value of Kazakh textile industry reached 23.4 billion tenge, a year-on-year increase of 20.5%, and the proportion of light industry output value rose from 55.5% to 60.1%. Kazakhstan’s light industry mainly includes textiles, sewing, leather, fur, and shoemaking, and it belongs to the country’s priority development direction.
