Industry scale
The general growth has slowed down in almost two years. From January to December in 2016, above -designated knitting enterprises witnessed the main business income of 754.515 billion yuan, an increase of 4.60% year on year , increasing 1.14 percentage points compared with 2015; total assets amounted to 488.209 billion yuan, up by 3.03% year on year, with 2.03 percentage points less than that of 2015; the number of above-designated enterprises reached 5,754, with scale of losses of 10.62%, 0.55 percentage point lower than that of 2015.
Cost structure
The cost structure of knitting industry saw a slight growth in 2016. The total cost of knitting industry amounted to 709.468 billion yuan, increasing by 5.07% year on year, with 0.17 percentage point more than 2015. Among them, main business income was 658.175 billion yuan, an increase of 4.49% year on year, with 1.13 percentage points more than 2015; the three costs (referring to operating cost, adminis - trative cost and financial cost) registered 51.293 billion yuan, up by 3.42% year on year, with 2.22 percentage points less than 2015.
Profitability
The overall profits of above-designated enterprises was in good condition, but the polarization was increasingly obvious. From January to December in 2016, the knitting industry realized total profits of 42.604 billion yuan, an increase of 7.25%; total loss of loss-suffering enterprises reached 1.398 billion yuan, up by 17.38% year on year; the range of loss was 10.62%, with 0.55 percentage point less than 2015.
Investment
After years of double-digit growth, the growth of investment fell significantly in 2016. The actually completed investment of knitting industry reached 125.852 billion yuan, an increase of 8.73%, with 10.92 percentage points less than 2015; the fixed asset investment accounted for 11.02% of the total fixed asset investment of textile and apparel manufacturing industry, basically flat with 2015.
General situation of import and export of China’s knitting industry
Import & export
Due to the impact of weak market demand, international transfer of industry as well as intensified competition, the export of knitting industry has decreased significantly in 2015 and 2016, after the continuous two-year peak in export in 2013 and 2014. The export of knitting industry reached $98.438 billion in 2015, down by 7.26% year on year, while the export of 2016 amounted to $88.845 billion, decreasing by 9.75%.
The import of knitted fabrics basically maintained growth in recent five years, the first year-on-year decrease in 2016. From January to December in 2016, the import of knitted fabrics registered $4.158 billion, a fall of 1.85% year on year.
Export markets & export provinces
The European Union, the United States and Japan are the main export markets for China’s knitted fabrics. From January to December in 2016, the export amounted to $38.698 billion, an increase of -8.95%, which only accounted for 43.56%, with 0.38 percentage point higher than 2015.
Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shanghai, and Shandong province are main areas for production and export, with export value of $76.261 billion in 2016, accounting for 85.84% of the total. Among them, export of Zhejiang amounted to $22.633 billion, down by 4.92% year on year, whose proportion has increased year by year, up to 25.78% in the whole year of 2016.
