President Sun Ruizhe to give keynote speech at the ITMF Virtual Conference

The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (hereinafter referred to as: ITMF) Textile Machinery Virtual Conference was held at 18:00 Beijing time On November 16th. The virtual conference was attended by nearly 500 members of the board of directors and successive presidents of ITMF, representatives of members of the ITMF Committee of Management and representatives of textile machinery enterprises.
The ITMF Textile Machinery Conference is the traditional industry conference of ITMF and is held annually by the Swiss, German and Italian textile machinery associations in rotation in Zurich, Frankfurt and Milan.
Mr. Sun Ruizhe, president of ITMF and China National Textile and Apparel Council, delivered a speech. He said that at present, the pandemic situation and the changes of the century are intertwined, and multilateralism is playing a fierce game with unilateralism. As a highly globalized textile and apparel industry, it is in close touch with the difficulties and twists of world economic recovery. To respond to external challenges, multilateralism and practical cooperation are the right path for mankind. ITMF always adheres to the principle of mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit, consultation, construction and shared benefits, and continues to play a constructive role in promoting the sustainable development and common prosperity of the global industry.
First, we need to maintain a secure and stable global textile supply chain by working together and focusing on development. ITMF will optimize situation analysis, share best practices, promote upstream and downstream interaction between different regions and industries, and strengthen the convergence of policies and standards. Second, we should promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and nature through inclusive, green and sustainable development. ITMF is making industry development more effective, equitable, balanced and coordinated, contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Third, we need to foster an innovation-driven, open and win-win industrial ecosystem with high-quality development. Upholding the right approach to justice and interests, ITMF strengthens innovation cooperation from the perspective of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
China is actively integrating itself into the world and serving the world. With a focus on building a new development pattern of “dual circulation”, new space for opening-up and development is opening up. This is a common opportunity. As an important participant and practitioner, the textile and apparel industry needs to open up new exploration.
Later, Mr. Sun Ruizhe shared the innovative practices of China’s textile and apparel industry. In 2020, affected by the pandemic, only China and Vietnam among the world’s top 10 textile export countries (regions) achieved positive growth, with China’s growth rate reaching 29 percent, contributing to the world’s fight against the pandemic. Since the beginning of this year, China’s textile industry has maintained a stable operation, and the textile machinery industry has formed a strong support for industrial development. From January to September 2021, China’s textile machinery imports and exports totaled USD 6.155 billion, up 14.25 percent year-on-year. Among them, textile machinery imports reached USD 2.647 billion, up 29.15 percent year-on-year; exports reached USD 3.508 billion, up 5.25 percent year-on-year.
At present, the world economic recovery is difficult and tortuous, and growth lacks long-term impetus; consensus on opening up has weakened, and trade regionalization has become a new feature; the deep penetration of digital economy has profoundly changed the global industrial pattern; green transformation has been comprehensively accelerated to reshape industrial competitive advantages and rules. The development environment of China’s textile and apparel industry is highly complex and uncertain, Mr. Sun Ruizhe said.
China’s textile industry has carried out a series of new exploration and new practice. The first is extensive and in-depth global cooperation. China’s textile industry continues to optimize the layout of production capacity at home and abroad, integrate and utilize global high-quality resources, and promote the upgrading of the global textile industry chain and value chain. The second is data-driven flexible manufacturing. The new generation of information technology is promoting the digital transformation of supply chain, forming a flexible manufacturing system with precise matching of supply and demand, efficient link of resources and interconnectivity of elements. The third is collaborative and efficient platform economy. Supported by the industrial Internet and other infrastructure, the formation of an industrial system with multiple factors gathering is accelerating. The fourth is green transformation of the whole product cycle. From materials, energy, manufacturing to recycling, a green and low-carbon industrial system and governance system are taking shape at a faster pace. The fifth is enabling industrial innovation by mechanism innovation. With the measure mechanism of intellectual property protection becoming more mature, the innovation of textile industry is becoming more active, Mr. Sun Ruizhe said.
Under the new development pattern of “double circulation”, China’s textile industry has also established a new development orientation in the period of 14th Five-Year Plan, that is, the pillar industry of national economy and social development, the basic industry for people’s livelihood and beautify life, and the advantage industry of international cooperation and integrated development. In the future, the industry will build a more open cooperation system, a higher quality innovation system, a more efficient manufacturing system and a greener industrial system.
Finally, Mr. Sun Ruizhe called on the global textile industry to strengthen cooperation to create a better tomorrow.
