According to a statistical survey of 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country (the cotton sown area in Xinjiang was obtained through remote sensing measurement), the national cotton sown area, output per unit area, and total output in 2020 are as follows:

The national cotton sown area is 3,169.9 thousand hectares (47.548 million mu), a decrease of 169.4 thousand hectares (2.541 million mu) from 2019, a decrease of 5.1%. The national cotton yield per unit area was 1864.5 kg/ha (124.3 kg/mu), an increase of 100.9 kg/ha (6.7 kg/mu) over 2019, an increase of 5.7%. The country’s total cotton output was 5.91 million tons, an increase of 21,000 tons or 0.4% over 2019.
