Nantong textile industry accelerates recovery

This year’s pandemic has had a great impact on the textile industry, but in the past two months, Nantong’s textile industry has shown a steady and improving trend.

The resumption rate of the textile industry in Nantong City has reached 100% at the end of March. Most companies do not dismiss their employees even if they are not at full capacity, ensuring social stability and sustainable development of the company. In the first half of the year, there were 1,130 enterprises above designated size in Nantong City, and the decline in operating income was 0.4 percentage points lower than that in the first quarter, and 2.9 percentage points less than the national operating income decline; the decline in profits was 4.2 percentage points lower than the first quarter.
 
Although the entire industry will inevitably decline, the main indicators are gradually improving, and the decline in exports has significantly narrowed. In the first half of the year, the textile and apparel industry exported 22.11 billion yuan, a decrease of 12.3 percentage points from the first quarter, which was better than the overall situation of the city’s trade. The situation of the home textile industry gradually improved in the second quarter. The order volume of some enterprises has reached or exceeded the level of the same period last year. It is expected that this will continue in the third quarter. The export of most home textile enterprises is expected to be the same as last year.
 
Survey data shows that 52 companies achieved sales revenue of 24.23 billion yuan in the first half of the year. In general, high-end is better than low-end, home textiles are better than apparel, domestic sales are better than foreign sales, and online sales is better than offline sales. With the restart of major economic markets in May, some small and medium-sized enterprises have also initiated new orders for seasonal clothing, and at the same time expanded channels to sell over-season products to minimize losses.
