EU launches recovery plan for coated textiles

A new European Union (EU) sponsorship program is trying to find ways to recycle multi-coated, coated textiles and plastics, including functional fabrics for outdoor equipment.
The main purpose of the “Decoat” project is to use a single solution to recycle textiles with complex multi-coatings --- because of their nature, it is impossible to recycle them with current technology.
The four-year plan has ambitious goals and is expected to reduce by 75% the current difficulty in recycling coated goods, such as clothing, electronics and automotive components. It is hoped that the carbon emissions of these products will be reduced by at least 30%. By recycling these materials, “Decoat” is expected to produce more than 150 million euros worth of new European markets in the medium term of the plan.
