Torchbearer costumes for Tokyo Olympic Games are designed based on the concept of “hope illuminates

Japanese actress Satomi Ishihara, the official relay ambassador, tried on and displayed the torchbearer’s uniform of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020 on June 1, local time.
The front of the torchbearer uniform is printed with the Tokyo Olympic torch relay emblem in 2020, and the back is printed with the Olympic emblem. The design symbolizes different countries (regions), cultures and ways of thinking. The costume includes a diagonal shoulder strap, which replaced the baton in the famous long-distance relay race in ancient Japan. While introducing Japanese traditional elements, the design embodies the respect for the Olympic torch relay and the expectation for the successful hosting of the Olympic Games.
It is reported that the Tokyo Olympic torch relay uniform in 2020 will also be partly made of recycled materials such as plastic bottles. “I think the Olympic torch relay can connect the torchbearers with their ideas,” said the designer of the uniform. In Japan, the Tokyo Olympic Games is called “Rebuilding the Olympic Games”. Therefore, the Olympic torch will be relayed from the areas recently affected by natural disasters. I hope that the Olympic torch relayed to Japan will bring encouragement and belief from people all over the world.
