The overall operation of the knitting industry in the first three quarters of 2018 was on the whole steady. According to the statistics of the National Bureau of Statistics, the operating income of 6,060 enterprises beyond the designated scale reached 496.64 billion yuan, registering a year-on-year increase of around 5.32%, and the growth rate dropped by 3.63% compared with the same period last year. The operating income growth rate was higher than that of the textile industry by 1.17%. Among them, around 2,526 enterprises above the designated scale accomplished 218.51 billion yuan of the operating income, registering a year-on-year increase of 7.09%, and the growth rate dropped by 2.12% compared with the same period last year. 3,490 knitwear enterprises above the designated scale actualized the operating income of 278.13 billion yuan, increasing by 3.96%, and the growth rate was 1.43% slower than that of the year before. In the first three quarters of 2018, the total corporate profits reached 24.256 billion yuan, increasing by 9.26%, and the growth rate was 2.14% higher than that of the textile industry. The profit rate of the knitwear industry was 4.88%, which was slightly higher than that of the textile industry by 0.19%. The industry’s losses scale was 16.47%, expanding by 3.51% compared with the same period last year. The losses of enterprises total at 1.836 billion yuan, which was 36.34% higher than that of the same period last year. The loss amount of enterprises obviously increased to be higher than that of the textile industry by 23.36%. The phenomenon of industrial polarization becomes increasingly obvious.
Comprehensively, the quality and efficiency of the industry in the first three quarters of 2018 kept on improving, and the profits maintained a positive growth. The profits of the terminal knitwear were superior to that knitwear. The export of the knitwear industry was on an upward trend, and the role of domestic sales became increasingly prominent. The export status of knit goods was superior to that of the knitwear. In 2018, the annual knitwear industrial performance was steady with an overall progressive trend. The annual operating income grew at a rate of 2% to 3%. The growth speed of knitwear was faster than that of knit fabrics. The industrial export market recovered, and the annual export growth rate fell into the section of 1% to 2%. The knit fabric growth rate was faster than that of knitwear. The domestic sales market exhibited moderate growth, and there was still a huge room for development of different market segments, including low-grade, medium-grade and high-grade ones.
“In 2018, we organized Party construction and technological innovation and promotion. The strategy of optimizing products, improving product quality and creating brands, market exploration and industrial promotion, and talent training — all these activities have achieved favorable outcomes, effectively ensuring high-quality development of the industry”, said Yang Jichao, President of China Knitting Industrial Association. In 2019, China’s textile industry is faced with a steady but volatile domestic and foreign market, and the demand growth has slowed down. All kinds of risks have kept on building. Enterprises must focus on improving their production efficiency and anti-risk capability so as to maintain a steady development momentum. “Thereby, the knitting industry, if attempting to keep a high-quality development, must vigorously seek technological innovation, cross-border integration, collaborated design, green and intelligent manufacturing, market exploration, and brand promotion.”
He also pointed it out that technological innovation lies in the combination of the “vertical” and “horizontal”, “face” and “line” thinking approaches, particularly the necessity of vigorously promoting the all-around forming technique, and the combination of knitwear and fashion design. Cross-field integration must satisfy consumers’ demand of clothing diversification and differentiation. The knitwear design and development originate from fiber yarns, and require a perfect integration of fashion design, pattern structural development, knitting manufacturing technology and other links as well. It is of vital importance to strengthen the social responsibility construction, build the accountability industrial chain, and shape an environmentally-friendly corporate brand image. With further release of the domestic demand potential, “innovation breakthrough + value recreation” will be a weapon for enterprises to explore new markets. Meanwhile, enterprises should exhibit their cultural confidence, lead fashion using quality brands, get adapted to the domestic consumption upgrade and build the national knitwear brand for China.
To sum up, the knitwear industry of 2019 should further strengthen the service supply-front reform, keep on promoting the “PH Value” China International Knitting Expo platform construction, organize the 4th “PH Value China Knitting Designers’ Competition” to promote emergence of more excellent knitting enterprises and products. At the same time, efforts should be made to continue opening training classes to bring up knitting designers to export more knitting design talents versed in the product technology to the industry, and hold functional knitting product election to expand the influence and to form the evaluation activity brand name-card. Additionally, activities, such as the “China Knitting T-shirt Fabric Fashion Launch Event” and the “China Knitting Intelligent Manufacturing Development Summit”, can be held. Last but not least, industrial innovation and upgrade can be propelled at an attempt to promote industry-wide applications of industrial technological information and improvement procedures for industrial technological process. Improvement of the service quality and level can contribute to professionalism, growing orderliness and normalization of the Association’s work.
