The decline in the European apparel retail market to continue

Since May, many European countries have resumed work, and the retail market has begun to show signs of gradual recovery. But the latest data show that the market’s decline and stagnation will continue.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said that in the first full month of the outbreak control period - April (April 5 to May 2), the total retail sales in the UK fell by 19.1%. Non-food online sales increased by 57.9% in April, accounting for 69.9% of total non-food sales in April. In the three months to the end of April, in-store sales of non-food items fell by 36%. According to the latest data from the UK National Bureau of Statistics, sales of apparel and footwear stores in the UK fell by 34.2% and 44.2% respectively in March.
 
According to Eurostat data, sales of apparel and footwear stores in Germany fell by 51.9% year-on-year in March.
 
According to a survey by the Confindustria Moda, the Italian fashion and textile industry lost more than 3.5 billion euros in the first fiscal quarter, and may lose about 9 billion euros throughout the year.
