U.S. denim exports from Bangladesh drops

With overall apparel shipment reducing in Bangladesh denim apparel import by the U.S. continued to fall consistently in November 2020. U.S. imported USD 264 million worth denim apparels in November, declining 10.90% on year-on-year and 19.53% on month-on-month basis.

After witnessing a yearly growth for three consecutive months in denim apparel shipment to U.S., Bangladesh plunged by 2.66% in November clocking USD 54.80 million revenues.
 
The bigger concern for Bangladesh is monthly decline of 24% in November 2020 as compared to October 2020 at a time when Mexico – which stands at the second spot – just dropped by 2.35% monthly.
 
Nevertheless, Bangladesh is still the top denim shipper to U.S. as, cumulatively, it hit USD 522.77 million in January-November 2020 period and the value is around USD 100 million more than Mexico. Mexico’s denim shipment decreased 10.46% in November 2020 over November 2019 and was worth USD 50.77 million.
 
Vietnam, the third top denim apparel shipper to the U.S. was also down 2.97% on year-on-year basis and denim apparel shipment totaled USD 33 million in November 2020, while it saw a plunge of 20.78% on month-on-month basis.
 
Meanwhile, China experienced a steep drop both year-on-year 36.46% and month-on-month it was down 25.75% to clock USD 28.15 million in November 2020.
