In March, 2013, the annual Fabrics China Creation Competition has launched in the city of Beijing. Oriented with the theme of “Dream · Path”, the Competition, jointly with Intertextile Apparel Fabrics, would integrate the industrial resources and advantages to attract more and more domestic and overseas manufacture enterprises, trade companies as well as fabrics designers to participate in, so as to develop and lead the R&D of fabrics products with sound market reflection.

Recently, the Fabrics China Creation Competition 2013 Media Conference was held in Beijing. Sun Ruizhe, vice president of China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), Xu Yinxin, executive vice president of CCPIT TEX, Wendy Wen, senior general manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., Xie Fangming, director of Products Department of China Textile Development Center (CTDC), Li Binhong, director of CTDC, and some other industrial representatives were invited to take part in the Media Conference, communicating and sharing with the medias their further understanding about Fabrics Creation Competition.

“Cotton is the problem. Till now the whole industry still strive to find the right method to solve the problem. For fabrics designers, they can not ignore the current industrial development trend and environment. On the basis of a clear understanding of industry background, they have to put fashion elements into the fabrics products; besides, they also should introduce more cultural and technological factors into products R&D. In my opinion, technology could create market value,” remarked Sun Ruizhe.

“During the judging process for 2014 Spring/Summer Fabrics China Creation Competition Finalists, our judge panel discovered several products highlights. For example, the pure cotton underwear fabrics, developed by Zhejiang Charming Dyeing and Finishing Co., ltd, apply the high-count long staple cotton as the raw material, introducing more technological elements into cotton products R&D,” Sun introduced that, “For domestic Chinese textile and apparel industrial creation, there are basically two emphasizes: firstly, they should transfer their focus from investment-oriented to market demand-oriented; secondly, they should make effort to develop technologies and techniques, which would create more economic benefit significantly.”

“Products design is not only the design of pattern and textures, but also the integration of culture and technology. And for this year’s theme of ‘Dream · Path’, it will have a subtitle —‘Creating Market Value with Technology’, which is the common target for the Creation Competition, the fabrics designers and the whole textile and apparel industry in China,” concluded Sun.

Since the year of 2012, the Creation Competition, for the firstly, would unite with China International Trade Fair for Apparel Fabrics and Accessories (Intertextile Apparel Fabrics) – one of the largest global textile fabrics professional exhibition fairs, jointly promoting the Competition together.

“We provide the platform. This is very important. The combination of Competition and Exhibition could offer these newly-developed fabrics products an effective platform to explore market.” explained Xu Yinxin, executive vice president of CCPIT TEX, “Through the fabrics exhibition, the creation products, including new material, technology and technique, could have the opportunities to well showcase themselves in front of visitors and buyers comprehensively. Besides, most competitors are fabrics exhibitors. Through the Creation Competition, enterprises could make more efforts and have more drives in improving fabrics manufacture, design and creativity, which could also upgrade the overall fabrics industrial competitiveness markedly.”

Furthermore, Intertextile also attracted overseas fabrics enterprises and designers to participate into the Creation Competition.

“Last year, the Creation Competition was one of the key activities of our Intertextile exhibition. As one of the organizers of the exhibition, we recommend 13 overseas fabrics enterprises with 100 fabrics products to take part in the Creation Competition. Of them, three were awarded the Finals,” introduced Wendy Wen, senior general manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd.

Wen also expressed that, “For overseas exhibitors, through the Competition, they could know the status quo of Chinese textile industry nowadays, and the most popular fabrics products in Chinese market. Foreign fabrics enterprises are more proficient in aspects of fabrics color, material, pattern, technology and so on. We will, according to their own characteristic, introduce the enterprises to the Creation Competition, which could be helpful to enhance the Competition’s international influences; on the other hand, by means of the Competition, more and more overseas enterprises could gain the opportunities to realize and enter the Chinese market.”

Moreover, in 2012, the Creation Competition also combined with Shengze town, one of the largest man-made fibers industrial clusters in China, to promote the competition.

“Shengze, renowned Chinese domestic silk town in Wujiang City of Jiangsu Province, is one of the most important textile and apparel industrial production, export and distribution centers in China,” said Li Jianjiong, party secretary of Shengze Town.

“However, recently, most companies in Shengze town are extensive enterprises, and the homogeneous competition is obviously in our town,” indicated Li, “We continuously encourage the enterprises in Shengze to strengthen self-independent product R&D, improve the fabrics products, and enhance the brand value. It is not difficult to find that, for fabrics enterprises in our industrial clusters, the Creation Competition has played an important role in promoting products R&D. The companies here have more enthusiasm to actively take part in the Competition. Most of them make effort to upgrade their technological advancement; some of them strive to develop differentiated fabrics products, which are beneficial to the healthy and sound development of our industrial clusters.”

Nowadays, in order to better cope with the fluctuant cotton price as well as the soaring production cost, most domestic Chinese fabrics enterprises strive to improve their core competitiveness through product, technology and market innovation.

Reviewing the fabrics entries for the Creation Competition, functional, high-technology, fashion, eco-friendly technology, brand economy, etc, gradually become the new features for fabrics products design and marketing.

For example, the application of green dyeing advanced technology, just like the mass coloration and the aerosol staining technology, not only could reduce the discharge of waste water, but also could improve the fabrics’ performance and lower the production cost, possessing a comparatively higher market value. All in all, technology offers the path to realize the market value.
