The right time for Guangxi sericulture industry to strengthen and improve

In recent years, Guangxi has seized opportunities, scientific planning, and innovation promotion. The development of sericulture industry has achieved remarkable results. It has become China’s most important cocoon production and silk processing base, and has made significant contributions to Guangxi farmers’ income increase, agricultural efficiency and poverty alleviation. It has created the magical “Guangxi phenomenon” in the history of the world sericulture.
The largest scale in the world with outstanding benefit advantages
Since the new century, the sericulture industry in Guangxi has leaped year by year. In 2018, the mulberry garden in Guangxi covers an area of 3.427 million mu, accounting for about one fourth of the country, ranking first in the country for 13 consecutive years. Silkworm cocoon output is 404,400 tons, accounting for 55% of the country. It has ranked first in the country for 14 consecutive years, far surpassing India, the world’s second largest producer and consumer of silkworm cocoon.
Good breeding system and flourishing cocoon processing
As early as 2007, Guangxi set up a silkworm quality inspection and quarantine station to ensure the safe production of silkworm eggs through unified inspection and quarantine. In 2018, the production capacity of the original silkworm breeding farm in Guangxi reached more than 200,000 pieces; the annual production capacity of the first generation hybrid seeds farm exceeded 5 million pieces; and the annual production of 10 tons of new hybrid mulberry seeds could meet the needs of expanding mulberry plantations of more than 200,000 mu per year.
Big but not strong, industrial chain to be filled
Although Guangxi sericulture industry has made remarkable achievements, there are still some problems at this stage, such as big but not strong, big but not excellent, and low quality of development. In recent years, the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on inspecting Guangxi has been thoroughly implemented in Guangxi. In accordance with the new requirements, Guangxi has firmly promoted the development of modern characteristic agriculture and the cause of enriching the people and rejuvenating Guangxi, and has made great efforts to write a new chapter of the Maritime Silk Road in the new century.
